I can’t believe how quickly the time is going! It’s been a month already and in some respects I feel like I’ve been here forever, but in other ways I feel like I’m just starting and have so much to learn! It really is amazing to have this opportunity to work with such an incredible group of people.
Some of us had the opportunity to head into the city on Tuesday to a Northern California NFSC regional event. It was an information session with John Vanek from the San Jose Human Trafficking Task Force. We had heard John speak at the Investigator Academy so the content wasn’t new, but it was a great experience to see how the regional events happen. It gave a new perspective on the work that NFSC does, and how it engages with the larger constituency.
It was also great this week to hear again from Imelda, our National Constituency Director, who does an amazing job of overseeing the regional directors of Not For Sale. Her role is vital to the movement, as without the constituents on the ground NFSC is limited in what it can do. When the constituency is mobilized however, the possibilities are endless!
So the rest of this week has been busy! We each have projects we are working on and Benita, Davy and I are heading off next week to the East Coast to go and help out at Soulfest, where NFSC is the main sponsor (http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/news/2010/07/01/soulfest-2010-is-not-for-sale/ ). It should be an amazing few days and I’m really looking forward ti seeing how NFSC engages people through a large event such as this.
After Soulfest, some of us are taking the opportunity to drive down to NYC and then Washington DC which will be amazing. I wasn’t expecting to do much sightseeing this time in America, so this opportunity is really unexpected, but very welcome! We are leaving Sarah here to run the store and hold the fort, so I hope she has an amazing time!
I’m sure I’ll have a lot to report about or adventure next week, so until then, thanks for your prayers, emails, thoughts and messages!
